Physical Activities Towards Health and Fitness (PATHFIT): Readiness, Implementation, and Effectiveness Among Higher Education Institutions in Region 6

Dr. Camila Jill Remorin-Belandres, Faculty-college of Business and Management

This study aimed to ascertain the current tertiary physical education (PE) program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) the physical activities towards health and fitness (PATHFIT) in terms of readiness, implementation and effectiveness among higher education institutions  (HEIs) in Region 6 during the school year 2022-2023.  A total of two hundred four (204) tertiary PE faculty participated in the study. Purposive sampling was used by the researcher to determine the respondents from selected HEIs which included State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) and Private Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs). Data were gathered using a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) guide for the qualitative data.

A modified research questionnaire based from Revitalizing Tertiary Physical Education (Malones, 2022) was used to gather quantitative data. It was validated and reliability tested. The independent variables of the study were the readiness for the PATHFIT program and the implementation of the PATHFIT program. The dependent variable was the effectiveness of the PATHFIT program. The data were collected through the survey-questionnaire via Google link, considering data privacy and confidentiality notice. The data obtained were subjected to Statistical Package  for Social Science (SPSS) Software. The descriptive statistical tools used were the percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation, while the inferential statistical tools were the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson r test.

The findings of the study revealed that the level of readiness for the PATHFIT program among HEIs in Region 6 was "Very High". On the other hand, the level of implementation of the PATHFIT program was also "High". Similarly, the level of effectiveness of the PATHFIT program is also "High".

Moreover, the results of the study also showed that there were significant difference in the level of effectiveness of the PATHFIT program among the level of readiness for the PATHFIT program. Likewise, there were significant difference in the level of effectiveness of the PATHFIT program among the level of implementation of the PATHFIT program. Furthermore, significant relationships existed among the readiness, implementation and effectiveness of the PATHFIT program. An enhancement plan was designed by the researcher to develop the readiness, improve the implementation and enhance the effectiveness of the PATHFIT program.
